The landlord licensing scheme was initially introduced in Liverpool back in April 2015 & was city wide, meaning any landlord in the Liverpool borough was required to hold a license to rent out there property.
The scheme was for a 5 year period and was designed to help raise the standard of homes for tenants. The majority of landlord's we dealt with and spoke to felt the scheme didn’t live up to what it was intended to do and was just an easy way for the local authority to raise funds by” taxing” landlords.
After having the renewal of the city-wide selective licensing scheme rejected by the government in 2019, Liverpool council have recently been successful with a smaller scheme covering 16 wards of the city which covers Approximately 45,000 of the original 55,000 properties.
The wards covered under the new scheme include: Central liverpool, Riverside, Greenbank, Kensington, Picton, Tuebrook & Stoneycroft, Anfield, St Michael’s, Princes Park, Kirkdale, Old Swan, Warbreck, Wavertree, Fazakerley and Everton.
The new five-year compulsory licensing scheme is set to commence from April 2022. We contacted the council at the start of the year for clarity on the fees and we were sent a link to the councils website with the proposed fees, you can find the link below.
